China Squad (our Wechat group name) spent the day in classes again. In addition to calligraphy and taiji, colloquy (in which students discuss ethics, nature vs. nurture, the meaning of life, etc.) is quite popular, as is biology (students took the DNA out of carrots today). Xirui (Sophie) Song joined us this afternoon while visiting her grandparents in Shanghai. Our group went out for dinner in Xintiendi, a shopping district in downtown Shanghai, with a few WLSA (World Leadership School Association) students. We visited Mrs. Jin’s college friend in her apartment around the corner from the restaurant for check-in during which we shared highs and lows. Most of us have had no lows, and all of us agree that the food is a high point – many high points in fact because we’ve been eating so well and the Chinese food is different and so much more delicious here than it is in North America. We were so tired that we skipped shopping and came straight back to the dorm by 9:30.
